Gardai were led on a daring high speed chase in pursuit of a reckless driver in Dublin this evening
Video footage has circulated on social media after a hysterical live-streaming driver was arrested after a wild Garda chase on the M50 and through North Dublin.
Gardai said the chase began when the woman failed to stop for them just before 6pm this evening, Dublin Live reports.
The woman driver, aged in her 20s, sped onto the M50 and even made it as far down as the Kilmacanogue exit of the N11 before coming back up the other side.
The chase then carried on for almost an hour and ended up back in North Dublin before she was finally arrested at 6:50pm at Hampton Wood Drive.
The driver went live on Instagram, showing her speeding along the M50 motorway with several Garda cars in hot pursuit.
Videos posted to her Instagram story and an Instagram live showed her singing along to songs on the car radio and shouting at the pursuing officers.
Up to 20 Garda cars and a Garda helicopter got caught up in the chase.
The woman was driving a white Mercedes saloon, and an earlier video showed her making her getaway while sirens wail and blue lights flash behind her.
Gardai said: "Gardaí are investigating an incident of dangerous driving that took place in the Ballymun area of Dublin, this evening, Monday 1 March 2021.
"The incident began at 5.55pm when a car failed to stop for Gardaí. The driver of this car, a woman aged in her 20s, was later arrested for dangerous driving at Hampton Wood Drive in Ballymun at 6.50pm.
"The woman is currently detained at Ballymun Garda station.
"No injuries have been reported."
