Shocking footage shows horror blaze rip through 48-floor skyscraper

Shocking footage shows a massive blaze ripping through a skyscraper in the United Arab Emirates city of Sharjah tonight.

The fire broke out earlier this evening, around 9pm local time, and seven people were left injured.

The 48-floor residential Abbco tower in the Al Nahda area, 17 miles from Dubai, was engulfed in flames in images taken by shocked onlookers.

Horrifying footage from the scene shows flames engulfing the building while terrified people scream trying to dodge debris.

The cause of the inferno is not yet known, reports the Mirror, but authorities claim seven people suffered "light" injuries and were taken to hospital.

Surrounding buildings are also thought to be at risk of catching fire, prompting fire crews to order evacuations throughout the area.

Sharjah Civil Defence teams told Gulf News that residents had been evacuated.

The fire broke out shortly after 9pm local time.

One resident told Gulf News : “It was a small fire to begin with and we came out of the building as soon as we saw it.”

Another said residents have been forced to take shelter in their cars because they have nowhere else to go.

Witness Petal Jaison told the publication that another smaller building had also caught fire.

Shops nearby also had to be evacuated, officials said, while fire crews battle the horrific blaze.
