Shocking footage shows heartless dog owner forcing terrified pet to run alongside moving car

Footage has emerged of a terrified dog in Fife being forced to run alongside the owner's moving car.

Police Scotland are investigating the shocking scenes, and are appealing for anyone with information about the incident to come forward.

A fellow road user captured the clip before it was shared on Facebook, the Daily Record reported.

The short clip shows the lurcher-type dog running close to the car's wheels before it attempts to run away after being spooked.

A person can be seen holding onto the dog's lead out of the window of the car.

People on Facebook reacted angrily when it the clip was shared by dog-walking company GeoPaw Cowdenbeath.

A spokesperson said: “I almost cannot believe what I’m seeing.

“This may look funny to some folk but going by comments from those who have seen the video the dog was absolutely terrified.

“It’s also extremely dangerous and just the height of stupidity. It’s unbelievable that any human can treat animals like this in this day and age. It’s just sickening.”

A spokesperson for the Scottish SPCA said the matter had not been reported to it, but that Police Scotland would act as the lead agency for any investigation.

Police said an officer was sent to scene, but the vehicle could not be traced. Enquiries are ongoing, however.

Some dog lovers said the cops should be treating the incident with greater urgency since the vehicle’s number plate was clearly visible.

Dog owner Jennifer Sterritt said: “I’ve seen time and time again, people complaining about all types of animal abuse, but they are letting the animals down big time.”

Anyone who can help provide any information about the vehicle or the dog featured in the footage should contact Police Scotland on 101.
