Shocking drone images show how close village is to disappearing into the sea

The rapid effects of coastal erosion on a clifftop community have been revealed in shocking new drone images.

Residents in Eastchurch, Kent, are living on the brink as the land around them continues to collapse into the sea with last month's heavy rain only adding to the problem.

It's just a matter of time before the whole village - situated in the picturesque Isle of Sheppey - slips off into the precipice.

Last year a land collapse saw a family home left partially suspended over a frightening sheer drop before it eventually fell along with their car.

The fire service put the incident down to the "devastating impacts of coastal erosion" at the time.

The new bird's eye photos show the ever-growing chasm where the house once stood, while underlying the sheer scale of the problem.

Villager Edd Cane, who has lived in his Eastchurch home for 15 years, says residents feel abandoned.

He claims the council have told him if things get any worse his home will be demolished, and he'll have to foot the bill.

His house once stood 82 feet (25 metres) away from the cliff-edge, but now has as little as 15 feet separating it from the edge.

Mr Cane said: “It’s eating away at my garden.

“The last council bloke who came down asked: ‘Do you feel safe in your house?’ and I said: ‘What do you think? I don’t think so, do you?'

“I have already been told by the council representative that if it gets much closer to my house they will but a demolition order on it and I will be expected to pay to have my house demolished.

“If that’s not rubbing salt in the wound, I don’t know what is.”
