Shocking details emerge about incidents involving knifeman Tasered by cops at health centre

More details have emerged about a series of shocking incidents involving a knifeman - who had to be Tasered by cops - at a health centre in Stockport.

Police received reports of a disturbance at Woodley Health Centre at around 12pm on Friday (March 12).

A man was reported to have been assaulted through his car window, GMP said.

Health staff were then threatened as a man demanded medication.

Staff in a waiting room were then confronted with blades.

The three incidents happened in 'quick succession', police said.

Leaders have praised officers for their quick response and bravery.

Two officers were first on the scene - one who is still training - followed by a third PC.

The man ‘lunged’ at one of the officers, who had to use his Taser to detain him safely.

A 50-year-old man was arrested on suspicion of assault; affray; and business robbery.

He was being questioned by police on Saturday.

A witness told the Manchester Evening News the man had 'six different knives, including meat cleavers'.

They said he 'tried to attack doctors, patients and nurses'.

"Everyone was safe and luckily no-one was stabbed or hurt," they added.

"Police came in and told him to get down, he didn't, so he was Tasered.

"They unpacked a bag with three further knives. He had one in his hand and two in his pockets."

Acting Chief Constable Ian Pilling said: "This incident clearly demonstrates the danger that my officers run towards on a daily basis and thanks to their quick actions, they were able to prevent anyone from coming to any harm.

"This incident clearly left a number of people very shaken and I'd like to take this opportunity to thank the officers of Greater Manchester Police who work incredibly hard 24/7 and act with the utmost bravery to keep our communities safe."
