Shocking dash-cam footage shows moment mum's car is written off by crazed driver in motorway crash

This is the moment a crazed driver smashes into the back of a woman's car at high-speed on a motorway.

In the dash-cam footage, a pick-up truck is seen speeding up behind the car, while another white vehicle is driving in the outside lane.

The 4x4 driver then speeds up and tries to jump in front of the white car on the outside lane by trying to squeeze between the two vehicles.

It smashes into the back of the woman's car, which was carrying her children, while narrowly avoiding the other.

BBC Scotland host Annie McGuire, who shared the footage on Twitter, said her vehicle was written off in the crash.

Debris and pieces of smashed taillight is sent flying as she and the other occupants can be heard screaming in terror.

The incident took place on the M1 near Sheffield and Barnsley.

Appealing for information over the rogue motorist, Annie posted on Twitter: "We got the fright of our lives.

"So so glad children are okay. M1 near Sheffield/Barnsley. Unlikely anyone knows this driver but please get in touch if you do.

"Worth watching the second vid to see the way they drive off."

The second clip shows the crash captured from a different angle shows the driver speeding off from the carnage.

Taken from a front dashcam, the badly damaged truck can be seen fleeing the scene as it wobbles from side to side.

Annie adds: "The guys in the white car who also nearly got hit stayed with us and were lovely. Car is a write off. We have been so well looked after by the staff of the @premierinn Sheffield/Barnsley.

"There are still many more good guys than bad out there.

"But yeah maybe get a dashcam..."

Thankfully neither she or her kids were hurt in the crash, and posted a picture enjoying a "medicinal Tennents" and thanked well-wishers.
