Shocking dash-cam footage of missile thrown at Uber driver's windscreen

Shocking dash-cam footage shows the moment a missile was hurled at the windscreen of a taxi, leaving the driver covered in glass.

Uber driver Stewart Williams had shards of glass in his eyes, ears and throat after the attack on Southport Road in Bootle on Thursday, April 8.

The 36-year-old was travelling along the top end of the road at around 11.45pm when the object - believed to have been a brick, was thrown at his car.

The force of the brick shattered Stewart's windscreen before it bounced off the bonnet and left a large dent.

Stewart told the ECHO: "As I'm coming up it looks as if he's crossing over the road and walking towards the direction of town.

"I've eased a little bit over the road to put a bit of space between me and him and as I've literally come past he's thrown the brick.

"It was thrown with such force the car has a physical hole in the windscreen. There's glass all over the car - I had glass in my eyes, ears and in my throat."

Stewart said he is thankful that no passengers were in his taxi at the time of the incident and that he managed to come away with minor injuries.

However, after what has been a difficult year financially for taxi drivers due to the coronavirus pandemic, Stewart must now try and find the money for a new windscreen and the other repairs needed on his car.

He said: "I was working that night there could have been a passenger in the car. I don't want this man getting away with it.

"I've been struggling to get to this point as a taxi driver and just as things are starting to pick up now I can't work.

"I'm now trying to find even more money to get [the car] repaired so I can carry on working when we come out of the other side of this lockdown.

"At the moment, as it stands, I don't know how I'm going to sort it out. I'm waiting until Monday to see what the bill is."

The person responsible for the incident can not be clearly seen in the footage but Stuart believes he was a "fully grown man."

He is appealing for help from anybody who may have witnessed what happened or who may have caught the incident on CCTV.

Stewart added: "I want him brought to justice and held accountable."
