Shocking CCTV footage shows moment woman knocked unconscious as thugs spark mass brawl

These are the shocking scenes caught on CCTV after a mass brawl erupted between thugs leaving a woman unconcious.

In the clip, the yobs can be seen throwing punches and kicks at each other, with some even picking up street furniture to use as weapons.

At the beginning, a young female caught up in the horrific fight is knocked out, lying motionless for several minutes before the police arrive.

Thankfully, as reported by the Manchester Evening News, she later sits up having been tended to by onlookers.

It is understood the woman was left bruised and shaken but fortunately did not suffer any serious injuries.

The brawl took place in a trendy Manchester district on Saturday night.

Residents in the area said there had been a sharp increase in alcohol-related crime and anti-social behaviour in recent months.

In May, there were complaints that large groups of people were gathering in Cutting Room Square and ignoring social distancing guidelines.

Locals in surrounding apartments have complained of late-night noise, people urinating in doorways and large amounts of litter being left, as well as fights.

Blossom Street, where the fight took place, was one of several city centre streets to be temporarily closed to cars in a bid to help bars and restaurants reopen and have customers sitting outside.

It has generally been regarded as a success but residents said the atmosphere had too often turned nasty on weekend evenings.

One said: "It’s a shame because the pedestrianised zone is so nice in the late morning - mid afternoon, but then as people get more drunk it’s just chaos.

"People just get so drunk and disrespectful.

"Up until recently we have loved living here but now we can’t open our windows at night because it’s so loud, like if you go into our communal gardens at night it sounds like we’re outside the smoking area of a club.

"It’s also clear people aren’t social distancing and as it gets later it gets really aggressive.

"On the night the video was taken at least two other smaller fights broke out, in the incident videoed a bystander was knocked unconscious whilst just out having a drink with friends.

"It’s just becoming a notoriously unsafe place to live.

"Lots of residents are thinking of moving away from the area due to the change in atmosphere."

"I think residents have different thoughts and feelings about why there has been a change - whether it’s the pedestrianised zones, or the set up of the square itself, or that generally more aggressive anti-social people are being drawn to the square now.

"It's also just too many people cramming into a small space - maybe down to the lack of space in the city?"

"About half an hour before this fight I could see one security guard under a lot of pressure to try and send different individuals from different groups home, and I just feel bad for all the staff who have to put up with s**t from people.

"Whatever people feel is causing the situation, there is just the shared feeling that it’s too much now, it’s becoming hard to live here, and just general disappointment and sadness about the whole thing."

The area is regularly patrolled by licensing officers, and has recently been added to the beat of the Greater Manchester Police city centre team, with dedicated patrols over the weekend.

GMP did not respond to a request for comment on the recent incident and the wider issues raised by residents.
