Shocked shopper films two rats scurrying over pastry basket in Sainsbury's bakery section

A shocked shopper filmed two rats scurrying across baskets of fresh pastries in the bakery section of a Sainsbury's store.

The clip was posted on social media and quickly went viral. It shows two rodents running across a butter croissant.

The scene was filmed by Instagram user Anthony Mitson, who posted it on his stories, The Mirror reports.

A spokesperson for the supermarket chain said they are investigating the incident at the branch on Essex Road in Islington, London.

The clip quickly went viral online, with people commenting and sharing it.

A viewer wrote: "This video is a perfect example of why supermarkets need to stop selling pastry out in the open like this. It's not just the rats it's the flies too."

Another said: "I can’t believe what my eyes are seeing."

One more added: "I mean, they’re everywhere… but this is particularly gross…"

Another shopper said they would never buy loose bakery items again.

Mr Mitson posted another video today showing a sign outside the supermarket telling customers the shop is closed.

The sign reads: "This store is closed at the moment. Sorry for the inconvenience."

A Sainsbury's spokesperson said: "We are immediately investigating with the store."
