Shocked neighbours discover discarded shotgun on pavement

Shocked neighbours discovered a discarded shotgun left on the pavement.

A passer-by called police after the weapon was found on Burnage Lane , close to the junction of Green End Lane, on Thursday morning.

Officers arrived to the scene and found the shotgun.

A police-tape cordon was placed around the area where the gun was found.

The gun was discovered at around 8am while children were making their way to school.

An eyewitness said: "I was walking my dog this morning and was surprised to see a police cordon with CSI vans outside a house.

"You hear of a fair amount of muggings in the area so I do hope no one has been hurt."

A spokesman for Greater Manchester Police said: "Police were called shortly before 8am this morning Thursday, September 19, 2019 to a report that a firearm had been found on Burnage Lane, Manchester.

"Officers attended and recovered a shotgun.

"Detectives are conducting enquiries to establish how and why it has been discarded."

Anyone with information or dashcam footage should call police on 0161 856 0185 or the independent charity Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111.
