Shocked KFC diner finds 'dead insect' in popcorn chicken

Fast food giant KFC is investigating claims made by an angry diner that she spotted a dead insect inside her popcorn chicken box.

Lucy Stubbs said she was tucking into the takeaway with her boyfriend when she made the shocking discovery.

The 21-year-old began eating her fried chicken when she realised one piece of chicken from her eight-piece dipping boneless feast appeared to be "covered in mould".

"It was disgusting," said Lucy.

"I put the box in the kitchen but accidentally knocked it over and that's when I found the insect, it fell out of the box.

"It made me feel ill thinking about it because we had already eaten some of the food."

KFC have since confirmed they are investigating the claim as is Cheshire East Council's environmental health department, reports CheshireLive.

The fast food chain is known for its buckets of fried chicken, plus wings and sides.

After complaining to the US-owned restaurant chain about the food purchased from Grand Junction Retail Park in Crewe, Lucy has vowed never to eat there again.

What KFC said

A KFC spokesperson said: "We have strict hygiene standards in all our restaurants so were surprised to hear about this.

"Since the incident, we've had a full inspection from an independent pest control company and the Environmental Health Office who've both found no issues at our Crewe restaurant.

"That being said, we're sorry for Lucy’s experience and are looking into what could have happened."

Lucy has also issued a complaint to the environmental health department at Cheshire East Council.

A spokesperson at Cheshire East Council said: "We have received a complaint and are investigating it."

Lucy has since said she has received a follow-up message from the environmental health department which confirmed it had visited the Crewe KFC premises to carry out a full survey and no issues were found.

It was confirmed the coating on the chicken was a quality issue and if spotted, would not be served to a customer.

The department concluded it would be keeping Lucy's complaint on file just in case they received any further complaints.
