Shocked Edinburgh parents sent emails with other children's exam results

Shocked parents of children attending a high school in Edinburgh were sent the exam results of other people's children.

Edinburgh City Council told BBC News the exam mix up involved a 'small number of pupils' attending Portobello High School.

The families and pupils affected by the fiasco have been sent a formal apology by the high school and told to delete the results of the exams as they are a 'breach of data.'

According to the BBC, parents received an apology letter which explained that they may have been sent exam results 'for a young person' that is 'not their own.'

A full investigation has now been launched by the school into what caused the exam results error.

A spokesman for Edinburgh City Council said: "As soon as the school realised the mistake, they alerted parents and carers to inform them, asking them to delete the email.

"It is believed to involve a small number of pupils and those affected families have been contacted directly by the school and given an apology."
