Shocked dad and son told by creeps at Ayrshire harbour: "We've killed someone...we're on run"

Two creeps confronted a dad out walking with his seven year-old son at an Ayrshire harbour before boasting to them: “We’ve killed someone and we’re on the run.”

The shocking incident with the oddballs left the father “shaken” and his young son “frightened”.

They were staying in Maidens with family at a nearby caravan site for a weekend break.

The pair were walking along the east side of the harbour on a part grass/part concrete walkway near to concrete drainage pipes when two young men emerged from the undergrowth.

The dad, 41, told Ayrshire Live: “My son and I had just played football and he wanted to see some of the sunken old boats that were on the eastern side of the harbour.

“As we walked along, these two weirdos emerged from undergrowth and I immediately knew something wasn’t right with them.

“One of them was physically holding up the other, they were clearly out of their heads on something, but not alcohol.

“They then engaged me in conversation and told me they were building a den.”

However, the conversation took a sinister turn when one of the pair made a shock confession.

The dad said: “The first youngster said to me, ‘We’re building a den here for the night, we’re criminals and we’ve killed someone. We’re on the run.’

“I instantly told my son to go fetch his mum and gran, who were walking at the other side of the harbour.

“That bought me a few seconds so I could get my son away safely.

“Once he sprinted away, I just said to them, ‘enjoy your night, lads,’ because they were clearly out of their heads.

“But you can never be too sure how someone is going to react in situations like that. I had to remain on my guard.”

Bizarrely, the second male extended his arm in a fist-pump gesture before the pair returned back into the undergrowth.

The dad said: “I’ve been coming to Maidens for decades and I’ve never encountered anything remotely as disturbing as this.

“I didn’t dial 999 for two reasons; one, I did not feel my life was in immediate danger and two, the mobile phone signal down there is pretty poor as it is.

“Besides, how long would it take for officers to arrive?

“Would they come from Girvan? From Maybole? From Ayr? How long would that take?”

Ayrshire Live can reveal that the incident unfolded on Saturday, September 25 at around 6.45pm.

At the time of the incident, the area was relatively populated with walkers, dog walkers, people going to and from Wildings restaurant, while it's understood there were a group attending a function at Maidens Bowling Club.

The dad added: “In the end I messaged Police Scotland through their 101 online reporting form because their behaviour was strange, sinister almost.

“I thought about just brushing it off, but looking back, I’m angry because I was placed in a situation where my seven year-old son was left frightened by these two and I was left a bit shaken by the whole incident.

“And my son walked ahead of me when they approached. They didn’t see me at first from the angle of the undergrowth, so it’s entirely possible they were planning to confront my wee boy on his own.”

The first man was described as white, aged between 17 and 20, with dark hair, was softly spoken and wearing dark sports clothing.

The second male is described as black, aged between 17 and 20, with dark hair and wearing dark blue sports clothing.

Both of them were in possession of mountain bikes which were spotted in the undergrowth.

A Police Scotland spokesperson said: “We received a report of concerning behaviour of two men on Saturday, 25 September, 2021 at Maidens Harbour in South Ayrshire.

“Officers attended and searched the area and there was no trace of the men.”
