Shock weather warning hits Rutherglen and Cambuslang

It may be nearer to spring than winter, but the Rutherglen and Cambuslang areas has been issued with a weather warning for snow.

In place from Wednesday evening till Thursday morning, the warning comes after a period of turmoil and disruption.

Bad weather has been hanging around on the back of Storm Ciara, Denis and Jorge, with few spells of dry weather or sun over the past few weeks.

Now weather experts are saying there is a 60-90 per cent risk of snow and ice from tonight, with temperatures hovering at just one degree.

And that comes with a ‘feels like’ factor of up to MINUS SIX because of the wintry conditions.

Snow is expected to last until the early hours of Thursday, with a period of dry weather lasting from around 4am till 10am, before things turn wet again.

Met Office boffins are predicting that temperatures throughout Thursday will not get above four degrees, with ‘feels like’ temperatures remaining in the minus all day.

Police Scotland and Traffic Scotland are urging motorists to take care on the roads when driving, and to make sure their cars are fit for all conditions.

Motorists should also check driving conditions before embarking on journeys and expect a change in conditions once out and about.

The warning lifts at 10am on Thursday, however, it is expected to remain wet for the remainder of the day before a dry Friday and Saturday morning.

Unfortunately, rain is expected to return early on Saturday afternoon.

Anyone looking to travel is urged to check road conditions first.
