Shock Strictly result prompts Shirley Ballas to make voting plea to viewers

A taken aback Shirley Ballas issued a plea to Strictly Come Dancing viewers on the importance of voting after being left in shock by this week's result.

After the Strictly spoiler leaked an unexpected bottom two, the drama unfolded on BBC1 when the pre-recorded results aired on Sunday night.

And there was a gasp in the Strictly studio and in homes across the country when host Tess Daly called Rhys Stephenson and his pro partner Nancy as the first couple in the dreaded dance-off.

As CBBC star Rhys had to quickly come to terms with being in the bottom two, Tess asked the judges for their opinion on him being in danger, with head judge Shirley looking flabbergasted by the result.

After being reminded of her comment to Rhys on Saturday night that he was a 'rising star' she said: "First of all this is why voting is important.

"I'm absolutely in shock that you are in the bottom two. I'm extremely surprised by that. You turned in a very good performance when you danced."

Offering Rhys some advice, Shirley added: "If anything, when you get into hold, just try to keep that frame a little stiller.

"You know what I mean by that, you've done it before. Go for it, turn in that performance you did before. You are a rising star, you will get there, I'm convinced of it."

Rhys and Nancy landed in the dance-off with Ugo and Oti and, after both couples reprised their routines, all four judges opted to send Rhys and Nancy through to Halloween Week.

Like Shirley, many Strictly viewers at home were shocked and saddened to see Rhys in danger, with one fuming: "STRICTLY WATCHERS. IF YOU F**KING DARE LET RHYS AND NANCY GET IN THE DANCE OFF AGAIN IM GOING TO COMMIT SO MANY CRIME."

Another blasted: "How the HELL did Rhys end up in the bottom two? That is some bulls**t, right there"
