'Shock' - Neal Ardley reacts after Notts County players hit by positive Covid tests

Notts County boss Neal Ardley says the health of his players seems to be "okay" after four of the squad tested positive for Covid ahead of their clash against Maidenhead.

The club conducted a round of testing yesterday, which was paid for by the owners, but several of the squad are now confirmed to have contracted the virus.

But their clash against Maidenhead will still go ahead as planned and the club has made Sutton United, their last opponents, aware of the results.

Speaking ahead of the game at Meadow Lane this afternoon, Ardley said the club had not expected to go through the season Covid-free, but it was still a shock to the system.

“Of the players who tested positive,  some of have the symptoms while some are asymptomatic," he said.

“In many ways, the players who felt poorly might have expected it, where as the other lads were a bit shocked and it takes a bit of getting used too.

“But their health is okay and that is the main concern.

“We have lots of strict protocols but even though you think your bubble is safe, all it takes is one of the opposition team to have it and it can get around.

“We have been bracing ourselves for it, but even though you do that, it still comes as a little bit of a shock and it’s a little bit shaky.

“We are going to have to be very stringent and test again next week.”
