Colin Boyce will move a motion to spill the Nationals leadership at a party room meeting on Monday and stand as a contender against David Littleproud – a challenge colleagues have dismissed as unlikely to succeed.
The member for Flynn declared the party was “committing political suicide” by ending the Coalition. His move comes amid what he calls a “right-flank onslaught” from One Nation, for whom support has surged in the latest Guardian Essential poll.
The pollster and former Liberal party strategist Tony Barry writes that the Nationals and Liberals need to focus on economic management and housing – especially in urban seats – if they want to stop bleeding votes to One Nation and the teals.
