Shock fire pit accident leaves Springboks and Munster players with burns to hands, legs and face

Two South Africa players will have to meet with a specialist this week after a shock fire pit accident left them with burns to their legs, hands and face.

Munster on Monday announced that Springboks Damian de Allende and RG Snyman, as well as Ireland internationals Mike Haley and CJ Stander, required treatment after sustaining superficial burns following an accident on the weekend.

Haley and Stander are expected to return to training this week and could even feature in Munster's Friday night clash with Zebre.

However, both Snyman and Stander, who were recently named in Jacques Nienaber's squad to take on the British and Irish Lions this summer, are ruled out of the Rainbow Cup match, with the Irish outfit revealing in a statement that the pair will need further medical attention.

The South African duo are said to have sustained "more substantial burns" to their legs, hands and face and will have to see a specialist.

Munster coach Johann van Graan said: “We are hugely relieved that the lads are all ok.

“The players have all been treated and are being well looked after with Damian and RG meeting the specialist again later this week to review next steps of their recovery.”

The pair were expected to meet up with the South Africa squad after they concluded this season with Munster, but it appears their domestic campaign is over as they have now been ruled out of the fixture with Zebre.

South Africa take on Georgia on Saturday, July 3 in the first of their warm-up matches for the series with Warren Gatland's Lions.
