Shock as the identity of X is finally revealed after a year long surprise on Britain's Got Talent

The identity of the creepy magician X hasn't been revealed until now - and Britain's Got Talent hosts Ant and Dec and the judges were stunned when it turned out to be Marc Spellman, an illusionist from last year's series.

The room erupted when Marc, who got Ant and Dec's golden buzzer last year, was unmasked

The talented BGT illusionist wore a spooky white mask for his performances and used a voiceover as he remained silent.

But during tonight's final he removed his mask after a chilling last trick.

Presenters Ant McPartlin and Declan Donnelly were asked to pick out bits of coloured paper with memories of X's life written on them.

X was revealed as Marc (ITV)

X then made everyone choose a word on a screen and asked everyone who picked the word 'hope' to stand up, and amazingly the entire audience and the judges stood.

As jaws dropped, they fell further when a video explained the choice of word.

Last year he brought the judges to tears with a magic trick as he told the story of how he and his wife had battled to conceive and how his wife Tessa developed breast cancer while pregnant with their daughter Isabella. Tessa had chemotherapy, and both her and Isabella survived.

Marc stunned the audience (ITV)

"It was always about hope and never giving up. I am never giving up. I am X" said Marc, removing his mask.

"I wanted to so it without a story. I wanted to come back anonymous," he explained.

"I never in a million years would have guessed that," said Simon Cowell,

"I had chiills," said Alesha.

"Ohhh it’s Ant and Dec’s golden buzzer act from last year. Omg" said one amazed viewer.

"BEST REVEAL EVER!!! X needs to win!!!!!!!" cheered another.

Some fans suspected that X might have been another spooky act, Elizabeth, or Britain's Got More Talent presenter Stephen Mulhern.
