Shock as Olivia Olson sent home on Celebrity X Factor

Love Actually star Olivia Olson was in tears as she became the first star to be sent home from Celebrity X Factor.

The American singer was sent packing by Simon Cowell who had to decide between Olivia and journalist Martin Bashir.

Head judge Simon chose to send Olivia home over swing performer Martin.

She had earlier belted out the Cilla Black ballad Anyone Who Had A Heart, which Simon criticised as a 'karaoke' song choice for her.

"I'm not great" she told host Dermot O'Leary through tears as he asked how she was feeling.

She was embraced by former Coronation Street star Victoria Ekanoye as she moved backstage to be comforted by her fellow celebs on the ITV singing show.

"Poor move from Simon. Olivia really wants this whereas Martin is just seeing it as a bit of fun and a job..." said one viewer.

Martin was chosen over Olivia (ITV)

"I feel Olivia should have been given more time."

"Shame on you Simon Cowell," raged another fan.

"Sorry but thought @SimonCowell wanted it to be taken seriously and get a recording artist out of it .." said another.

"Wrong on so many levels , how did Simon just do that?" asked another viewer.

And another TV watcher tweeted: "Wrong decision. Martin is here for entertainment. X factor is supposed to be finding someone who has talent???"

Olivia Olson (Thames/Syco)

Olivia is best known for playing the role of Joanna in the festive film Love Actually in 2003.

She memorably stole the show at the school concert singing the Mariah Carey hit All I want for Christmas is You.

She has since done animated voice acting for kids’ TV including Phineas and Ferb on Disney as well as writing original music and singing since a young age and released an album in 2018.
