Shock as micro pig spotted trotting through Beeston graveyard

A man who was strolling past a churchyard in Beeston was more than a little bit surprised when he spotted a micropig "lurking in the shadows" ahead of him.

Paul Bowness was walking past the Parish Church of St John the Baptist, just off Middle Street, on the evening of November 11 when he saw what looked to be an "overweight dog".

However, upon closer inspection the animal in fact turned out to be a small spotted pig.

The small animal was trotting through the graveyard at the time.

Mr Bowness took to Facebook and posted a picture on Beeston Updated, hoping to inform the owner that their pig may have escaped.

He told Nottinghamshire Live: "The owner's cousin saw my Facebook post and sent the owner to claim it. It was enticed home with a box of vegetables. It was a micro pig called Darcy.

"It was lurking in the shadows and I thought it was an overweight dog. It was very tame."

Mr Bowness said he kept an eye on the animal until the owner arrived, watching it as it "happily snuffled around the churchyard".

Other residents took to social media to express their delight.

One woman said: "Seriously whoever owns this, when we are not in lockdown, my daughter would love to see it."

Another woman added: "Sometimes, I miss living in Beeston."

Mr Bowness said the pig had safely arrived back home on Wednesday evening.
