Shock as Edinburgh Melville Castle Hotel cancels all weddings and bookings as it closes for good

A popular wedding venue in Edinburgh has closed its doors for good due to the coronavirus pandemic.

Melville Castle Hotel in Lasswade has let would be brides and grooms know that they will now no longer be reopening their doors as the venue has cancelled all bookings and weddings.

The news of the permanent closures comes after the hotel posted on Facebook just four days ago that they would be reopening in March 2021 and that their closure would only be temporary.

One person who had booked with Melville Castle Hotel told Edinburgh Live that the venue had told them that "Our intention was to reopen in March 2021 but unfortunately this is no longer possible and we have no choice but to close the business."

The post announcing the now-redacted temporary closure created outrage amongst guests as for many of those who had previously had bookings for 2020, this was the first that they had heard of the hotel not reopening until March 2021.

One person wrote: "So what happens to the booking I made for Nov 2020?"

Another added: "My niece lost her deposit and she had already paid in full. She has been treated shockingly by Melville Castle. Had 3 family weddings there and there won't be another one."

One bride-to-be said: "Concerned that I've not heard from you after booking my wedding here for 2021."

One disgruntled booker commented: "I have 15 rooms booked in September... no response to calls or any emails..."

Edinburgh Live have contacted Melville Castle Hotel for comment.
