Shock as baby found in wheelie bin on housing estate

Residents were left shocked and horrified after a newborn baby was found alive in a wheelie bin. The incident unfolded on a housing estate at around 5pm yesterday (June 19).

A resident went to inspect what was going on when they heard the sound of crying coming from a bin. When they opened it, they found the infant in a garden waste bag with grass cuttings and its umbilical cord still attached.

They immediately alerted the authorities with multiple emergency service crews rushing to the scene on the Nunsthorpe estate in Grimsby. The baby was taken to hospital where it is receiving treatment, GrimsbyLive reports.

Emergency services were able to track down the baby's mum, who has been described as young. She has also been taken to hospital and is being cared for by the relevant authorities.

Speaking today, Humberside Police said there were not in a position to add any further details to their statement from yesterday. That said: "Officers are in attendance at a property on Winchester Avenue following reports of concerns for safety on Sunday, June 19.

"Assistance has been provided to those concerned. There are no issues or risks to the wider community."

A spokesperson for East Midlands Ambulance Service said: "We received a call at 4.58pm on June 19, to a private address in Grimsby. The caller reported a medical emergency. We sent two crewed ambulances and two patients were taken to Diana, Princess of Wales Hospital."

The incident left residents on the road shocked. The street is known to be a place where a number of families and elderly people live with a mix of semi-detached and terraced properties.

One resident said: "The mum must have been too young to understand or did not want anyone to know she was pregnant. We only hope she gets the care she needs and her baby."
