Shock after young man dies in workplace accident in Co Clare

A Co Clare community has been left in shock after the death of a young man in a workplace accident on Friday.

Damien Carmody, 30s, sadly died while working on a construction project near Doonaha in West Clare.

Emergency services, including two units of the fire service and an air ambulance, were called to the scene but the man was pronounced dead soon after.

The young man's body was brought to University Hospital Limerick where a post-mortem examination will be carried out.

Gardai confirmed the Health and Safety Authority have launched an investigation into the accident.

Mr Carmody was a well-known figure in his local community and an active member of local GAA club O'Curry's in Kilkee.

A local fundraiser group that Damian was a part of paid tribute after his sudden death, a spokesperson said: "Heartbreaking news today, RIP Damien, thoughts and prayers with all the Carmody & Marrinan families, O' Currys GAA and Damien’s wide circle of friends.

"He had no hesitation in supporting our charity fundraiser last September and his loss will be felt throughout West Clare & beyond, a very sad day Ar dheis Dé go raibh a anam dílis."

Funeral arrangements have not yet been released.
