Shkodran Mustafi sends classy Instagram message to Arsenal fans over Mikel Arteta

Ex-Arsenal defender Shkodran Mustafi has leapt to the defence of Mikel Arteta with a comment on his Instagram.

Mustafi's career at the Emirates was mixed, having been bought from Spanish outfit Valencia for £35 million in August 2016.

The German international got off to a great start for the Gunners, avoiding defeat in all of his first 22 games at the club.

However, things began to take a turn in his second season as he consistently made high-profile errors, and often was on the receiving end of criticism from Gunners fans.

Mustafi found himself out of the Arsenal team for much of the 2020/21 season and his contract was terminated by the Gunners earlier this year, with the defender moving to German side Schalke in February.

Despite his underwhelming time in north London, Mustafi holds no grudges against the club or his former boss, urging the Gunners' faithful to trust in Arteta.

He has done so on social media, with Mustafi responding to an Arsenal fan on Instagram with a message.

"Arsenal will very soon be where they belong trust the process and trust the coach he is phenomenal", he said on Instagram.

The 29-year-old's praise may come as a surprise to the majority of Arsenal fans considering Arteta has struggled since taking over from former coach Unai Emery in December 2019.

The Spaniard has overseen back-to-back eighth-placed finishes in the Premier League, resulting in the club failing to qualify for any European competition next season.

But Arteta and Arsenal are set for a busy summer transfer window alongside technical director Edu Gaspar, with the Gunners hoping to bring in five players this summer in a bid to bring the club back to where they feel they belong.
