Shkodran Mustafi's telling response when asked question about Arsenal boss Unai Emery

Shkodran Mustafi insists the pressure being felt by Unai Emery is as much on the players at Arsenal .

The Spaniard is coming under scrutiny after an opening 12 games that has yielded just four wins.

Emery was allowed to spend more than £100m in the summer, but has overseen a run of two wins in their last 11 Premier League games.

And the German defender, who himself does not enjoy the affection of Arsenal fans following a series of errors, maintains that everyone at the club is fighting for the same goal.

"First of all we play for the club," he said.

“Then obviously we play for each other. We’re a team. If the coach is under pressure the players are under pressure. We stick together.

“Everyone is giving their best. The coach is trying to organise the team, as players we’re trying to put on the pitch what we work on in the training ground every week.”

Emery needed a late Alexandre Lacazette strike to salvage a draw at home to lowly Southampton on Saturday.

But the Spaniard was confronted in the Emirates tunnel by head of football Raul Sanllehi and technical director Edu after the game as they sought answers for the Gunners' lacklustre performance.

Arsenal have some favourable fixtures ahead of them, but anything less than maximum points could spell the end for Emery who has not yet been in charge for 18 months.

Massimiliano Allegri and Nuno Espirito Santo are two of the names linked with his job as Arsenal come under pressure to act with Champions League football already looking a tall order.

The negativity around Emery has even seen him cancel a planned talk he had with some university students.
