Shkodran Mustafi's father and agent responds to Arsenal transfer exit speculation

The father and agent of Arsenal centre back Shkodran Mustafi has played down rumours linking the player with a move away from the club this summer.

Mustafi made a number of high-profile mistakes last season and it is thought Gunners manager Unai Emery is looking to move him on during this transfer window.

He has been most strongly linked with a move to Serie A side Roma, but his father Kujtim says he knows nothing about the rumours.

Speaking to Romanews he said: "It's news to me. There's nothing in it. There has been no contact with Roma or any other Italian club."

Arsenal have already strengthened at the back for the future with the signing of 18-year-old defender William Saliba from St-Etienne, although the centre back will return to France on loan next season.

Mustafi first moved to Arsenal in the summer of 2016 from Valencia for a fee of around £35m, and since made 112 appearances for the club.

Last season he made big errors against the likes of Crystal Palace and Tottenham , however, leading a large number of Arsenal fans to turn against him, with the player being booed on occasions.

The final straw is said to have been the Europa League final, where yet again the German international failed to impress in the thumping 4-1 loss to Chelsea , a loss which cost Arsenal a place in next season's Champions League.

But with Laurent Koscielny seemingly on his way out having refused to travel on Arsenal's pre-season tour , the Gunners are looking short at the back, although they are still trying to force through a move for Celtic's Kieran Tierney.

Arsenal have two more pre-season games, the first on Wednesday against French side Angers before they face Barcelona on Sunday.

They then travel to Newcastle on Sunday August 11 for their opening game of the new Premier League season.
