Shkodran Mustafi's father and agent provides update on transfer away from Arsenal

Shkodran Mustafi's father and agent admits he is working on a move away from Arsenal .

The German defender has not been involved in Arsenal's first two matches of the season and has been told to find a new club by boss Unai Emery.

Mustafi has until September 2 to complete a move to a foreign club, with Emery also advising Mohamed Elneny to move on.

The former Valencia defender has another two years remaining on his current contract but his father Kujtim suggests a move is on the cards.

"Shkodran had a great time with Arsenal. We still have a contract for two years and can imagine to stay in London," he said in a statement.

“However the best for both sides is probably to work on a transfer. But for that it also needs market-driven transfer-fees.”

Mustafi was linked with Monaco earlier this summer while a return to his homeland could also be on the cards before the end of the month.

Speaking ahead of the clash with Liverpool this weekend, Emery suggested Mustafi and Elneny should move on as they were not in his plans.

He said: “We now have some players who know their situation. For example, Elneny and Mustafi know their position in the squad and I really want the players to be happy here, I want them to be protagonists.

“Last year with Mustafi and Mo, when they didn't play they weren't happy. I spoke with them a lot of times last year and in pre-season, and I think it is positive for them to leave and sign for another team where they can be protagonists, be happy and continue their careers.

“They know the situation and really, really I am wishing the best for them – and I think now the best for them is to be protagonists in another team, to sign and get another challenge with another team."
