Shkodran Mustafi makes Arsenal vow after returning in Europa League

Shkodran Mustafi has insisted he won't 'begin a war' with Arsenal over his future.

However, the German defender admitted he would be tempted by a move to the Bundesliga if an offer were to materialise.

Mustafi made his first start of the season as Arsenal opened their Europa League campaign with a 3-0 win over Eintracht Frankfurt in the defender's homeland on Thurday.

He looked set to leave the Gunners in the summer, with Arsenal boss Unai Emery believed to have told him he could move on.

He has vowed to knuckle down after no transfer materialised - although he said: "If it is possible, I am open to take the next step."

"My father, who is my agent, spoke to the club,” Mustafi said to German publication Sport Bild after Thursday's game.

“I am an Arsenal player and still have two years left on my contract.

“I‘ve never been someone who begins a war when something doesn‘t work out.

“I always said: If it is possible, I am open to take the next step. If not, I keep playing my football.

“The manager [Emery] said he sees me the same way he sees every player in the team. That‘s why I played today and that‘s it.

“We are going to see what the future holds.”

Asked about the prospect of a potential move to a Bundesliga club, Mustafi said: “I won‘t say, that it isn't a thing but I am always what makes sense for me. I got a wife and two kids, so they have to agree as well.

“When a German club shows interest and it suits me, then I am open for it.”

The Gunners took the lead shortly before half-time on Thursday when Joe Willock's effort deflected in off first a defender and then the crossbar.

then struck with his first goal for the Gunners, with Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang adding a third.
