Shkodran Mustafi explains why he stayed put at Arsenal despite Unai Emery transfer talks

Shkodran Mustafi insists he is prepared to stay put at Arsenal after the club failed to secure a buyer for him in the summer transfer window.

As football.london reported during the summer transfer window, Mustafi and his representatives were reluctant to push for a move away from Arsenal, where he has a contract until 2021, and were only prepared to depart for the right club.

Emery told Mustafi during the summer that he was free to leave but after failing to find a buyer for the error-prone German he has shown a willingness to restore him to the squad.

Mustafi rewarded Emery's faith with a solid display in Arsenal's 3-0 Europa League win at Eintracht Frankfurt, leading his side in clearances and winning several aerial duels as his opponents bombarded the box.

Speaking after the game Mustafi made clear that his focus remains on Arsenal and that he is relaxed over what might come next.

"My father, who is my agent, spoke to the club," he told Sport BILD. "I am an Arsenal player and [I have] still got two years' contract.

Arsene Wenger not ruling out leading a team at next World Cup

"I've never been someone who begins a war when something doesn't work out.  I always said: 'If it is possible, I am open to take the next step. If not, I keep playing my football.'

"The manager said he sees me the same way he sees every player in the team. That's why I played today and that's it.

"We [are] going to see what the future holds."

As to possibility of moving to Germany he said: "I won't say that it isn't a thing but I am always [focused on] what makes sense for me.

"I have got a wife and two kids, so they have to agree as well.

"When a German club shows interest and it suits me, then I am open for it."
