Shizuoka Gov. Heita Kawakatsu said Sunday that he intends for Olympic events in the prefecture to be held with spectators present.

"Our prefecture is fully capable of doing so if we take measures to prevent infection," Kawakatsu told the press.

Cycling events will be held in Shizuoka Prefecture and will follow the policy decided by the Tokyo organizing committee and other organizations -- a maximum of 10,000 spectators or 50% of the venue capacity, whichever is smaller.

On Friday, the organizing committee announced that venues in the five prefectures of Hokkaido, Miyagi, Fukushima, Ibaraki and Shizuoka would be open to spectators. However, Hokkaido Gov. Naomichi Suzuki announced late that day that events there would be held without spectators.

Fukushima Gov. Masao Uchibori also announced Saturday that spectators would not be allowed at events in his prefecture.
