Shiver by Maggie Stiefvater - review

Maggie Stiefvater, Shiver

In a small town called Mercy Falls, lives a girl called Grace. In the same small town there is a wolf pack; this pack kills a local boy which leaves the town people scared and anxious. But Grace isn't scared of these wolves, they are her life. She looks forward to Christmas every year so that she can see them they seem to disappear when summer comes round. There's one yellow-eyed wolf that Grace is fascinated by the most. One day she has to save the life of a boy named Sam, there's something strange about Sam, something almost wolf-like… Is it a coincidence? Or is there more to it?

The first time I read this book I really enjoyed it. The second time I read it I appreciated it much more: I no longer thought it was good… I thought it was phenomenal! It is possibly now my favourite book ever! It beats The Hunger Games, it beats The Twilight Saga, and it's at a tie with The Fault in Our Stars!

If you've been looking for a book that makes you feel the same attachment to a fictional character as you felt for Augustus Waters in TFIOS, then look no further! Because Sam, you just fall in love with!

Everything about this book just gets your attention, the cover is amazing. The story is amazing. The characters are AMAZING! The title screams AMAZING! The relationships between all the characters are amazing, basically, what I'm trying to say is; THIS BOOK IS AMAZING!

There is something in the way it's written that makes it the perfect read for the winter, it makes you feel cold, and you can imagine everything so vividly! It's the perfect book to snuggle up with on the sofa in a blanket, a hot chocolate and the feel of Christmas!

Grace kind of has a perfect life, there are lots of things in Grace's life that are bad and miserable but then when she meets the wolf-like Sam everything falls into place and she has the thing everyone wishes they had; a guy that loves you, wants to make you happy, likes being with you, takes you out places and actually tries to make an effort to see you.

You just fall in love with the characters and the book itself, it makes you feel so peaceful and at ease in the world and everything feels okay because in that moment you are in Mercy Falls following the life of Grace and Sam.

One of the great things about this book, is, it stays with you forever; you don't forget about the characters once you finish the last sentence, there is a part of you always wondering what those characters are doing even though they're fictional and when they're not in your imagination, they don't exist: the only life they have is in the pages but to me they are much more than that. This book isn't just pages stuck together to make a story, it is my safety net, it is something perfect in a non-perfect world, and it gleams like a diamond amongst all the misery, heartbreak, pain and cruelty of the world, something to go to in the difficult times and I know this sounds cheesy, but trust me this book is something you won't ever forget.

Just read it, and if you don't like it then fair enough but you will like it, so that's not really an issue.

I would give it five stars but five stars isn't good enough. If such a thing existed I would give it 10 x 10 stars.
