Shirtless drunk man swore loudly as he tried to start fights on Hyson Green street

A shirtless drunk man swore loudly as he tried to start fights on a Nottingham street. Dritan Pepa, 44, of Burford Road, Forest Fields, appeared at Nottingham's Magistrates' Court on Tuesday, May 23.

In court he pleaded guilty to being drunk and disorderly on Birkin Avenue, Hyson Green. on May 3, 2023. Prosecutor Lauren Hemsley told the court that police officers were initially flagged down by members of the public nearby.

They were informed that there was a drunk male who was trying to start fights on the street, Ms Hemsley told the court. When officers arrived they saw Pepa, who did not have a shirt on.

He was also stumbling around and swearing loudly, with Ms Hemsley saying Pepa had shouted "f*** the police". Pepa was unsteady and drinking alcohol.

Pepa had three convictions for eight offences in the past. Speaking through an interpreter Pepa told the court: "I am sorry. I am stressed and I drink to sleep - it makes me feel better."

Members of the public were "clearly impacted by the behaviour", Ms Hemsley told the court. Pepa will have to pay a £30 fine, a £26 victim surcharge and £85 towards the legal costs.

Presiding magistrate Mr Kirk said: "This is the fifth drunk and disorderly [incident] in about a year. We are going to impose a fine which we hope will act as a more serious deterrent."
