Shirley Manson tips Lana Del Rey for next Bond theme

Garbage bandleader Shirley Manson has called for Lana Del Rey to record the next James Bond theme.

The Born to Die singer previously had her Bond theme rejected for 2015’s Spectre, which ultimately went with Sam Smith’s Writing’s on the Wall.

However, Shirley, whose band recorded The World is Not Enough for the Pierce Brosnan  007 film of the same name, believes Lana has all the qualities for the gig.

She told Metro: "I still don’t understand why they haven’t asked Lana Del Rey."

Shirley continued: "She’s glamorous, she’s dangerous, and she’s super intelligent.

"She’s one of the world’s greatest songwriters."

The Video Games hitmaker previously revealed she penned her track 24 from her 2015 LP Honeymoon for the Daniel Craig-starring flick.

Asked by the BBC at The Ivors 2024 why she hasn't done a Bond theme yet, she spilled:  “I mean, how has that not happened?”

Speaking of the song she offered, she said: “I wrote that for them."

The Cinnamon Girl singer joked that she often does “my little Nancy Sinatra thing every now and then and just pretend it’s the title track.”

Oasis were recently rumoured to be among the favourites to be approached to write the title song for the next 007 film, following Amazon MGM Studios’ takeover of the franchise.

Asked about the speculation during an appearance on talkSPORT, Noel played down the rumours.

He said: “This James Bond thing? What, Oasis? Nah.”

But when pressed on whether he would be interested if the offer came in, he said: “What for Oasis to do it? Absolutely. Of course. It would be an absolute honour, and I think those kind of things should be done by Brits not Yanks.”

He confirmed, however, that no one from Amazon MGM Studios had been in touch, adding with a grin: “Nah nah nah. I’ll play a villain. I’ll play a Mancunian villain.”

Noel previously shared that he had a go at penning songs he believes would suit a Bond film.

Speaking to NME, he said he had listened back to one track and thought it would make "a great Bond theme".
