Shirley Ballas 'mortified' at Kaye's Strictly exit as she slams decision to save Matt

Shirley Ballas is "mortified" Kaye Adams got the boot from Strictly Come Dancing, saying Matt Goss should have gone home instead.

The judge, 62, voiced her opinions on The One Show last night, saying the decision to send home the Loose Women presenter, 59, 'wasn't right'.

Asked how she felt when the Scot went home, Shirley said: "I just felt on the evening both couples made mistakes but the quality of Kaye was by far superior on that evening, and I was absolutely mortified that she left to be quite honest.”

“I love my fellow judges, and we’re all there to do a job, but that was one they didn’t quite get right.”

Despite her disagreeing with the panel's decision, Shirley said the judges are still friends.

“You know sometimes I’m just delighted when they can agree and it’s not my job to send somebody home," she continued.

“But [Adams] was, and had, the most beautiful movement. She was fluid and I like fluidity. So there you go.”

Kaye was the first person to be voted off this year's show after failing to impress both the judges and the viewers with her performance of the Charleston to Music! Music! Music! with professional partner Kai Widdrington.

The couple found themselves in the bottom two with Bros star Matt, 54, who managed to do just enough to convince the panel to save him and partner Nadiya Bychkova.

However, after Kaye's short stint on the show, her Loose Women pals jumped to her defence.

Jane Moore reckoned her colleague was "robbed" as she stuck up for the mum-of-two.

"I have to say, she was robbed," Jane claimed. "I thought she did so brilliantly and for me, she is what the Strictly journey is supposed to be all about.

"She'd never danced, she's not a performer, she was well outside her comfort zone, she was the first to admit it and she improved immensely from the first week to the second and yet she found herself out."

Janet Street Porter agreed, saying: "I think it's really unfair. I sent her a text last night. I said 'you showed such guts going it, I really think it shows guts."

She went on to speculate that there was "something else at work" with the public voting.

"I think women of a certain age have a tough time when they enter something like Strictly," she mused.
