Shirley Ballas defied doctor's orders by returning to Strictly just days after having breast surgery

Shirley Ballas defied her doctor's orders to return to the Strictly Come Dancing judging panel just four days after having surgery to remove her DD breast implants.

The head judge was back at her desk after having an op on Tuesday to reduce her breasts to their natural A cup.

The dancer decided to undergo the four-and-a-half hour operation after a potentially dangerous tissue capsule had grown unexpectedly and because of a risk of cancer in her family.

Shirley, 59, wants to make young women reconsider before going under the knife.

After the op she was determined to return to the job she loves on the BBC dance show, and she looked fabulous in a chic black suit and white blouse.

“I have stuck to all of Dr Waterhouse’s rules apart from one, which was: ‘Don’t go to work on Saturday!’” she told the Sun.

Ahead of the show Shirley posted a video to fans and said on Instagram: "I’m ready to go.

"I’m not going to lie it’s certainly been a challenging week. But I’ve had amazing friends and family messaging me.

"To all the Strictly family, friends and fans you are simply the best. I feel positive mentally and I’m ready to share this beautiful show with you."

Earlier she thanked her surgeon and her mum Audrey for caring for her.

"My mum simply the best. We take care of each other. We always have done," she said.

"I’m so grateful to have her in my life. Strong woman in every sense of the word. Never ever complains. "Thank you mum for all the lessons you have taught me. I’m happy to be your patient.

"To Dr Waterhouse who has been brilliant with me. I’m so happy with my surgeon honest and to the point. Onwards and upwards. Love you mum."
