An investigation by the Blanco County Sheriff’s Office has shed light on the unfortunate accident that led to the death of Angela Chao, a prominent figure in the shipping industry. The report, released recently, disclosed that Chao was intoxicated at the time of the incident, with her blood alcohol level nearly three times the legal limit in Texas.
The tragic event occurred on the night of Feb. 10, following a dinner gathering at a ranch near Johnson City, west of Austin. Chao, 50, was driving her Tesla when she backed it into a pond near a guest lodge on the property. Friends and deputies made frantic efforts to rescue her from the sinking vehicle.
According to the report, a friend received a distress call from Chao, who was trapped inside the car as it submerged in the water. Despite rescue attempts by friends swimming to the vehicle and emergency services breaking the window to reach her, Chao tragically passed away before she could be brought to safety.
Subsequent toxicology tests revealed that Chao's blood alcohol concentration was significantly above the legal limit, indicating the role of intoxication in the accident. Chao, who served as the chair and CEO of the Foremost Group, a family shipping business, was also actively involved in philanthropic endeavors through the Foremost Foundation.
Her sudden demise has left a void not only in her family but also in the Asian-American community, as highlighted by her father's poignant statement. Angela Chao's legacy as a symbol of peace and prosperity resonates with those who knew her, and her contributions will be dearly missed.
Angela Chao is survived by her husband, father, and four sisters, leaving behind a legacy of leadership and compassion that will be remembered by many.
