Cold storage bags needed to transport the novel coronavirus vaccine are being shipped at a rapid pace from a factory in Kasukabe, Saitama Prefecture, that has been entrusted with the work by medical equipment manufacturer Sugiyama-Gen Co. of Bunkyo Ward, Tokyo.
The work is being done in anticipation of the start of vaccinations of senior citizens against the novel coronavirus in April.
According to the company, the cold storage bags are used to transport Pfizer's vaccines to local vaccination sites. They contain an aluminum box and insulation.
The bags keep the vaccine refrigerated at 2 to 8 C for 12 hours. One bag can hold 250 doses of vaccine.
The company plans to deliver 40,000 of the bags to the central government, and decided to produce 24,000 more after receiving a number of inquiries from local governments around the country.
Kensuke Fujii, 43, of the company, said, "We want to fulfill our responsibility through our products."
