
Female junior high school students dressed white kimonos and red hakama trousers, sitting in a circle, throw omikuji fortunes in the air in response to the jingling of a bell held by a miko female shrine attendant who stands at a center of the circle, at Keta Taisha shrine in Hakui, Ishikawa Prefecture, in Japan on Saturday. This annual event is held to mix together 50 variations of omikuji -- about 200,000 fortunes in all -- in preparation for the New Year holiday period when shrine visitors pray and buy omikuji.
