The on-loan striker Leon Knight showed there is life after Bobby Zamora by taking his tally to three goals in two games with an excellent double strike to see off promotion rivals Queens Park Rangers 2-1 at the Withdean.
When Zamora parted in the summer manager Steve Coppell admitted he did not know where the goals were going to come from but in Chelsea striker Knight he has found a real gem.
Knight cancelled out Rangers' opener and then scored his second of the night on 65 minutes with a typical striker's effort to give Brighton maximum points so far this season.
It was well deserved after a powerful second half performance from the home team. The Londoners started brightly and drew first blood in the eighth minute. Rangers full-back Gino Padula whipped in a free kick from the right touchline and the ball escaped the attentions of the defenders and sneaked unimpeded into the bottom corner.
It spurred Brighton into action. Darius Henderson went close with a header before Knight struck first with a well-taken goal on 12 minutes. Gary Hart broke free on the right and delivered a fine cross to the striker, who flung him self at the ball and headed past Chris Day. The second half began in a disastrous fashion for QPR when full back Terrell Forbes was sent off following a clash with Kerry Mayo. Rangers were in danger of collapsing under Brighton's pressure and on 68 minutes Knight scored his second with a typically opportunist strike.
