Shilpa Shinde trolled for being ‘too fat’ in the item song Maro Line

Shilpa Shinde, of the hit sitcom Bhabhiji Ghar Par Hai, was fat-shamed by trolls. The actor is featured in an item song Maro Line in the upcoming Hindi film Patel Ki Punjabi Shaadi.

Shilpa, who plays Angoori bhabhi in the TV show, quit it some time back and went to do this item number which has been crooned by Neha Kakkar.

The song was released on September 4 and immediately evoked extreme reactions, with many calling her “too fat”. Many others trolled her for her choice of clothes and for putting on so much weight.

Patel Ki Punjabi Shaadi stars Rishi Kapoor and Paresh Rawal in the lead. It also stars Vir Das and Payal Ghosh and has music by Lalit Pandit. The film releases on September 15.

Shilpa Shinde had quit Bhabhiji Ghar Par Hai in March last year citing mental torture and a threat to her career as the reasons. She accused the show’s producer Benaifer Kohli of being “a terror on sets”. She also filed a sexual harassment case against Sanjay Kohli, Benaifer’s husband.

Shilpa’s accusations got its fair share of support and brickbats.

Actor Sameksha Singh came out in support of the actor. Sameksha, who worked with Sanjay and Benaifer on a TV Zaara in 2006, said that while she did not face the same issue like Shilpa, she could relate with her. She explained how the makers were capable of sidelining the primary issue and in turn, blame the actor for her unprofessional behaviour.

However, Saumya Tandon who was Shilpa’s co-star in the show, said that Shilpa lied and used her name.

“It is so sad that she used my name. Saying that she confided in me is not true at all. I shared a very professional relationship with her. Also, I’m the kind of a person who is very confident about myself. So, it’s very kiddish to say the things that she said and I really didn’t like or appreciated those lies,” Saumya said.
