Shillong: On the 90th birth anniversary, Shillong remembered former president APJ Abdul Kalam, known as ‘Missile Man’, on Saturday. Tribute was paid to him at the Dr APJ Abdul Kalam Centre for Policy Research and Analysis of IIM-Shillong.
In his address to students, NITI Aayog member and chancellor of Jawaharlal Nehru University, New Delhi, Vijay Kumar Saraswat narrated his experience working with Kalam for over 25 years and how it changed his life. He shared the dream that Kalam had seen for India “Vision 2020”.
In light of the upcoming “Azadi ka Amrut Mahotsav”, he shared his decade-old conversation with Kalam about making India self-reliant and how he saw that dream unfolding in present India. He said the five crucial pillars for India to emerge as self-reliant — economy, infrastructure, system, demography and demand.
