Shia LaBeouf has squashed rumours of a potential La-beef with Timothée Chalamet, after fans speculated the pair were at odds over a recent acceptance speech.
In proof that Hollywood (or stan Twitter) can conjure up a beef between just about anyone (ahem, Katy Perry and Wendys), the two actors were thought to be feuding after LaBeouf made reference to Chalamet’s speech during the SAG Awards earlier this year.
If you recall, it was the speech where Chalamet, who collected a SAG Award for his role as Bob Dylan in A Complete Unknown, expressed his desire to be “one of the greats”.
Months later, LaBeouf called back to the speech in an interview with The Hollywood Reporter, saying he would’ve drawn criticism if he had made comments like Chalamet’s.
“Then I hear Timothée Chalamet get up and he says something like, ‘I want to be great,’” the Holes actor said.
“On him, it’s cute. On me, it wasn’t cute. You know what I’m saying?”
To his point, absolutely anything is cute on lil’ Timmy, but I digress.
Naturally, since fans know no chill, LaBeouf’s comments led to Holes-sized speculation of a feud, but the actor has now come through with receipts proving the pair are not quarrelling.
For reasons unknown, LaBeouf channelled his inner-thespian on X, quoting a 19th poem by Rudyard Kipling while sharing an email exchange between himself and Chalamet.
“’If you can bear to hear the truth you’ve spoken, twisted by knaves to make a trap for fools,'” the actor wrote, sending a retroactive shudder down my Year 9, Shakespeare-averse spine.
The emails see Chalamet reaching out to congratulate LaBeouf on his role as a prison inmate in Henry Johnson — a play that recently ran in Los Angeles.
“Absolutely blown away by your work the other night,” Chalamet wrote, adding that LaBeouf was “totally electric, totally present at every turn”.
In a response that reads half like ChatGPT, half like a guy who just learned what hip-hop is, LaBeouf wrote “Thank you doggy” (?) and concluded with “bang bang”, which I’m making my official Gmail sign-off as we speak.
At the time of writing, the Dune superstar hasn’t shared any comments — or email threads — regarding his friendship/feud with LaBeouf.
That being said…. Bang bang.
