Sheyi Ojo 'set to join Rangers on-loan' as Steven Gerrard targets another Liverpool raid

Liverpool talent Sheyi Ojo is set to join Rangers on-loan - according to a report.

It's claimed Steven Gerrard will bring the Anfield academy graduate to Ibrox immediately after he signs a new five-year deal with the Merseysiders.

Ojo spent last season with Stade Reims in Ligue 1 but was unable to make a sustained impact.

According to the Daily Star, Gerrard will raid his old club once again after bringing in Ryan Kent and Ovie Ejaria last summer.

Ojo can play off either wing and has been with Liverpool since 2011.

It's reported the Champions League finalists are keen to see get more regular first-team minutes, having also spent time with Wolves and Fulham in recent seasons.

Meanwhile, former Rangers loan defender Russell Martin has described how Gerrard has transformed the mentality at the club.

He claims the confidence-shredding, toxic atmosphere of last season has been replaced by a self-belief and positivity which point towards silverware next term.

Martin’s six-month loan spell ended miserably amid the chaotic reign of caretaker boss Graeme Murty but the former Scotland star is convinced Anfield legend Gerrard has taken huge strides.

Martin said: “Rangers look like a side who have their confidence and belief back. Last season it just wasn’t there.

“We were going into games not knowing how things were going to go. I never felt as though we had the confidence within the group except for a spell just before we lost 3-2 to Celtic.

“But after that loss at Ibrox I didn’t feel there was any belief.

“They now have that back and it’s massively important for a club like Rangers with all the expectations they carry.

“That stands them in really good stead going into the summer break.

“There has been a culture change, it’s clear there is a change in the environment and Steven has brought that from Liverpool.

“That change does take time and we are seeing that slowly but surely develop. It just came a bit late this season for Rangers."
