Sheyi Ojo heading to Rangers as Ryan Kent deal appears dead in water

Sheyi Ojo looks increasingly likely to become a Rangers player ahead of the new season as Steven Gerrard continues his rebuild.

But one Liverpool player's journey to Ibrox could well be the end of the road for Rangers' hopes of landing another.

Ryan Kent was the Anfield star Rangers fans were desperately hoping to sign this summer at least on another year-long loan if not permanently.

Kent lit up Ibrox with his performances on the flanks and was honoured with the PFA Scotland Young Player of the Year award.

The 22-year-old has been Gerrard's number one signing target as a result.

But as Gavin Berry suggests on this week's Record Rangers Podcast, Ojo's arrival could be good and bad news for the Light Blues.

Gavin reckons Aston Villa's impending bid for the £10million-rated Kent will blow Rangers out the water - and reckons the similarly styled Ojo may well already have been lined-up as a replacement.

He said: "Villa were linked with a £10million bid and once you start seeing those figures then Rangers are out of the running.

"It looks as if Rangers are resigned to losing him and Liverpool have said 'you're not getting him but by the way here's another guy'.

"He is a Ryan Kent type that will get bums off seats, exciting fans.

"When you talk to people down south then Ojo is one they reckons could feature in the first team down there. He would be a good one to get and certainly to soften the blow of Ryan Kent."

Gavin joined Calum Loudon and Fraser Wilson on today's Record Rangers podcast to discuss all the latest goings on at Ibrox with Steve Clarke's first Scotland selection announced without a single Rangers player in the 27-man squad.

Is there a growing divide between the Ibrox club and the national team?

The lads also discuss which returning loanees cold make an impact for Gerrard and just what Neil Lennon's appointment at Celtic means for Rangers - has it instantly given the Light Blues added momentum going into the new season?

Listen to what they have to say on all this and more in the player above.
