'Shettleston has a new hero' - Glasgow schoolgirl stars in BBC show Class Wars tonight

A teenage activist from Glasgow's east end will be celebrated in the latest episode of the BBC show Darren McGarvey’s Class Wars tonight.

Erin Bleakley, from Shettleston, will have the spotlight shone on her in the second episode of the series, which sees social activist and commentator Darren – who is also known as Glasgow rapper Loki – take a look at social class in the 21 st century.

Tonight, Darren will meet Erin, who helped force the government to change their policy on how exam grades were awarded during the pandemic.

Meeting her in her local area, he declares: “Shettleston has a new hero.”

In the episode titled 'Home Sweet Home?', Darren McGarvey is examining how our social class and where we live have far reaching consequences.

He looks into how this impacts our lives in ways that few realise - from our addictions to our qualifications.

Darren says: “In this episode I want to investigate if our environment shapes our social class?”

Talking about the first wave of exam assessments made during the pandemic, which she successfully campaigned against, Erin says: “We were being judged on our postcode…We were made to feel our postcode defined us.”

Darren McGarvey’s Class Wars airs tonight at 10pm on BBC Scotland
