Shetland actor issues apology for 'h***' tweet posted after Celtic beat Rangers

Douglas Henshall was criticised for his post

SHETLAND star Douglas Henshall has issued an apology after making an "inflammatory" social media post following Saturday's Celtic v Rangers game.

The Glasgow-born actor, 56, who recently quit his role as DI Jimmy Perez in the Shetland series, shared a tweet after Celtic beat Rangers 4-0 at Parkhead on Saturday.

Henshall tweeted to his 94,000 followers: "It's always a good day when the H*ns get humped. Lol."

The post was met with over 300 replies, many of which criticised his choice of words.

One respondent commented: "Love you as an actor. Really disappointed by the language you use here. The West of Scotland needs to end this sort of bigotry and this tweet was not big and not clever."

Another added: "Fair play to have some banter and celebrate Celtic’s win. But to use the term ‘h**’ is just wrong."

The post was deleted on Sunday, before he apologised to “anyone offended by it” on Monday morning.

He said: “I’ve taken down a tweet I sent over the weekend.

“It was dumb and inflammatory and completely misjudged.

“My apologies to anyone offended by it."
