‘She’s A Pelican’: Aussie Icon Paul Hogan Slams Pauline Hanson After Racist Speech

Australian actor Paul Hogan has slammed Pauline Hanson for labelling him as the ideal person in her dream “monocultural society”, calling her a “pelican”.

In an interview with the Australian Financial Review, the Crocodile Dundee actor responded to Hanson’s comment in the most Paul Hogan way possible: a string of Aussie slang.

“She’s a pelican, yeah. Outrageous, so racist. It sounds very much like this stupid boofhead over here, Trump,” he said. To clarify, Hogan, 86, now lives in California — hence the ‘over here’.

“She’s living in the past, obviously,” Hogan continued.

Hogan told the Australian Financial Review that his “simple rule for what makes a good Australian” is “wanting to be one”.

“How can [Australia] be a monoculture? We’re all migrants, except the Aboriginals, who as far as we know have been [in Australia] for 60,000 years.”

Hogan’s comments come after Hanson’s controversial National Press Club speech speech at, where she called for the end of multiculturalism. In its place, Hanson said she favours “monoculturalism”, where we all “live under the one cultural umbrella”.

When asked to clarify WTF she meant (because seriously, what is she talking about), Hanson told the Senate: “Bring back Paul Hogan and [fictional character] Norman Gunston. These are the essential features of Australian monoculture, and there’s nothing remotely exclusionary about them.”

Personally, I don’t understand a word that came out of her mouth. But from the sounds of things, she really misses old Aussie TV.

It seems like Hanson getting carried away with her speech at the National Press Club didn’t work in her favour. Since the speech, One Nation’s popularity is down two per cent, sitting at 29 per cent, according to Newspoll. Labor is sitting at 33 per cent, and the Greens is at 14 per cent.

As for Hogan, he can’t wait to return to a multicultural Australia.

“I’m only here [in California] for my son. When he’s settled, I can’t wait to get back. I don’t have a time scale, but I want to die in Australia,” he said.
