Sheriff slams "disgraceful" behaviour of Wishaw man who threatened to punch police officers

A Wishaw yob who squared up to police has been slammed for his “disgraceful” behaviour.

Lee Greechan, 30, of Tinto Crescent, was ordered to carry out 140 hours of unpaid work when he appeared at Hamilton Sheriff Court.

He admitted threatening or abusive behaviour at an address in Greenhead Road, Wishaw, on July 28.

Greechan also admitted resisting arrest as four officers tried to restrain him.

The court heard officers were called to an “ongoing disturbance”.

Shaun Alexander, prosecuting, said: “The accused told the officers to f*** off. They tried to defuse the situation, but he squared up to them. He was arrested then said if the handcuffs weren’t removed he would ‘punch f*** out of you’.”

Sheriff Alasdair MacFadyen told the accused: “I’m prepared to offer a direct alternative to custody, but this was disgraceful behaviour.”
