Sheridan Smith would 'beat herself up' over nasty trolling amid anxiety battle

Sheridan Smith would "beat herself up black and blue" over cruel trolls.

In tell-all documentary Sheridan Smith: Becoming Mum, she revealed she nearly died as she was rushed to hospital after becoming addicted to her anti-anxiety pills.

Sheridan's anxiety escalated on-stage and heightened when her late father Colin was diagnosed with cancer.

Her fiancé Jamie recollected the haunting impact trolls' comments had on his love after she attended the Pretty Woman red carpet.

The dad shared his devastation over just five remarks being enough for Sheridan to start "beating herself up until she's mentally black and blue".

He said: “After Pretty Woman, the stories all came out. They were fine. I didn’t read the comments. She did.

"Let’s say there’s a thousand comments, 950 will be nice, 45 will be neutral and then there’ll be five horrible ones. Nothing else will matter.

"It’s those five ones. And she will beat herself up until she’s mentally black and blue. It’s devastating to see.”

Sheridan welcomed her first child Billy into the world in May.

The West End star has already expressed a desire to have a second child.

Motherhood has brought the actress a great deal of joy and brought calmness into her world.

Her world which had once been wrecked with anxiety was now bliss and peace.

She said: "Now I’ve got this little family and I just feel, I can’t explain it, like a contentment, a calm.

"Maybe I was looking for something in the wrong places and now I feel like I’ve found it in this little boy when I look in his eyes, it’s just incredible."

Sheridan Smith: Becoming Mum is on Tuesday 1st September at 9.00pm on ITV.
